Program Description
Moving big things has been a challenge forever, and the challenge has been met by clever people in thousands of surprising, creative ways. Author-Illustrator Jan Adkins will intrigue students with his knowledge of basic physics applied to human problems. His facility in drawing on-screen adds an immediacy to the presentation and welcomes interaction.
Program Format
1.Describing simple machines in common human situations. They’re everywhere! An interactive survey asking students to think about the physics around them today.
2.Describing the creative solution our great-great-grandparents used to overcome weight and size without using motors.
3. How we still use simple machines to increase the power of modern machinery.
Objectives
Students will recognize simple machines around them. They’ll become more confident in ways to multiply strength. They’ll recognize how we substitute gasoline and kerosene for simple methods.
