Title:
Public Law, Private Schools, and Special Education Presenter: Julie Lane Date: 05/09/2012 Session Overview Many private schools are unaware of the public school district and federal/state law requirements as they pertain to special education and private schools. Join Julie Lane as she explores the federal/state/district responsibilities as to children placed in private schools by their parents, including the rights to Child Find activities within the school district where the private school resides, the collaboration and consultation between public and private schools, special education allocation funding under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and funding through the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, Title 2, Part A. This is an informational session targeted to private schools of all kinds who are looking for information and guidance to support their special needs students. Dr. Lane serves as a full-time special educational faculty member at Fresno Pacific University. She is also the owner of Alternative Designs for Special Education (http://adspecialed.com), and she has been developing and reshaping special education programs in private schools for the past 20 years. Julie has been an administrator and/or educator in public, private and charter schools. Dr. Lane holds her doctorate degree from Pepperdine University, a Master of Arts in Special Education from Chapman University, and teaching and administration credentials from the state of California.
