Since 1994, Ruth has served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration (CILC). In addition to her work at CILC, she has served as a board member for the International Society for Technology Educators (ISTE) as a council representative for Internet2, and on the Board of Directors for the Agency for Instructional Technology. In 2007 she was awarded the United States Distance Learning Association Award for Outstanding Leadership by an individual in the Field of Distance Learning.

Ruth has professional teaching licenses for grades Pre-K-12. She was the Director of Technology at Park Tudor School in Indianapolis, Indiana for 11 years (1983-1994) prior to becoming executive director of CILC in 1994.
