2012 Holocaust Videoconference

About

On Thursday, May 3, 2012, the Eastchester UFSD and the Westchester Holocaust Education Center will present two multi-point videoconferences on the Holocaust for secondary-level students (grades 6-12). The first conference is scheduled for 9:00-10:15 AM EST and the second for 1:00-2:15 PM EST. Bridging for this program will be provided by www.Connect2Texas.net, hosted by Education Service Center Region XI, Fort Worth, TX. The conference will feature the stories of Dr. Moshe Avital, who was sent to the Berehovo Ghetto in Hungary, deported with his entire family to Auschwitz, Poland, transferred to Plaszow, then to Gross Rosen, then to Bolkenheim, Reichenau and finally to Buchenwald, Germany, where he was liberated in April, 1945. Ms. Barbara Berger Tartell will share the stories of her father and mother who were both Holocaust survivors. Ms. Tartell will also share her insights and perspectives on how the second generation has been affected by the Holocaust. The conference will be moderated by Mr. Andrew Cahn, Regional Museum Educator for United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. The format for the conference will provide the speakers with an opportunity to share their story and offer perspectives on the Holocaust and its relationship to the “human spirit." This will be followed by a round-robin Q&A session with the (interactive) conference participants. For each of the conferences, there will be a total of 18 slots; 6 interactive and the remainder "view only." Interactive slots will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, but also taking location into account so as to have a broad representation of participants. There is no fee for the conference, but an IP connection is required to connect to the bridge. A mandatory test call to the bridge must be scheduled and completed by April 27, 2012. Additional information about the test call will be sent once participation is confirmed. If you are interested in participating, to reserve a slot, please contact John Blaser via email (jblaser@eastchester.k12.ny.us) by April 20, 2012.
