Tips for Site Coordinators

FEATURING
Charlee Hagan
Charlee Hagan

Distance Learning Specialist
Arlington ISD
Arlington, Texas

Best Experience
When asked about the best experience in her six years as DL Specialist, Charlee couldn't decide on only one. Here are her four best:

  • Organizing a collaboration between two high school Latin classes in different school districts and a Roman ruin in Spain. Shortly after, the two classes arranged to go to Spain and help excavate the site.
  • Participating in a day of presentations to U.S. Military Forts in Iraq and seeing my nephew!
  • Being part of a videoconference with University of Bagdad high school students one week prior to the US invasion
  • Initiating a collaboration with high school French teachers in the US and France. Watching the now five (5) year collaboration continue to grow.

A Lesson Learned

Charlee's response to this question is short, simple and poignant: Be there for your teachers!

Lingering Question
We're back to more than one response!

  • How do I encourage teachers to create their own sessions to deliver content?
  • What are the best methods to encourage collaboration?
  • Who are the best people to align sessions to the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills)? This would encourage teachers to participate. Can we divide and conquer throughout the state? How are other states handing this issue?
  • How will old technologies merge with new ones (IP and Web 2.0 for example) to change videoconferencing and how do we bring those to the classroom?
  • What are the best tools and methods for creating blended learning environments?
  • How do I construct and implement staff development for all the above?

Please join Charlee to discuss answers to these question on our NING Site Coordinator Community. It is open to all!
