Professional Development and Training

...as a tool for teacher learning

Content Provider: Kimberly Tyson
Program Title: Linking Leads to Learning: Integrating Early Literacy Strategies into Classroom Instruction
"I felt that the presenter had good ideas that I can use in my classroom. I learned that children can learn reading strategies in an overt way and take initiative while reading to gain meaning from the text instead of just reading mechanically. I learned a lot."
      -Staff PK-2

Content Provider: CILC Professional Development
Program Title: Engaging the Student through Videoconferencing
"This event was presented as Staff Development for teachers and administrators. Mr. Meyer was able to show our teachers that the use of videoconferencing in instruction is not a technology driven activity, but rather a content and curriculum driven activity. He helped to remove the "hi-tech" stigma and bring this technology into the teachers’ realm, utilizing their language and addressing their interests and needs.

Mr. Meyer also included a second content provider which cemented the sense that teachers could videoconferencing as a tool to teach multiple content.

When we present locally at staff meetings, teachers still hear and see 'technology' NOT content and curriculum. Mr. Meyer easily navigated between the two coexisting realms and showed this to the teachers."
