Lessons Learned

…On gaining new knowledge from the program

Content Provider: Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum
Program Title: Critters in the Cold

Impact on Learning
“Though we had studied "Critters in the Cold" as a unit, and had done an extensive penguin study prior to this, and although, we are on the older end--a second grade class, this presentation added to the hands-on experience with such things, as the blubber, etc... The before prep materials added some info. and vocabulary that was good review and/or new to us, as well. It was a great compliment over-all to our studies and lent itself well to inter-curricular activities.”

“This was a first time w/this provider for me. I would recommend it to others. I have taught this unit and penguin units, as well, for 28 years. This presentation and pre-and post suggested activities made this year extra fun for me.”

Recommend? Yes
“I would (and have) recommended it to others. My building is a strictly K-2nd Grade building and this was very applicable to the levels here. I would like to look into what else you may offer! Our thanks!”

Comments
“These students had never experienced Dist. Learning before and so the wonder of all of that was exciting for them with this visit too! The presenter was a wonderful first videoconferencing example for them and the "hands-on" was so fun that the time passed quickly!”

“The teacher and I gained tremendous insights into the topic. These insights will be used in future instruction. Student learning was highly impacted by those who participated in this program.”

Recommend? Yes
“The resources that the content provider was able to bring into the classroom were extremely valuable and engaging. This would not have been easily accomplished within the classroom (dry ice, etc.). The hands-on science experiments kept the students engaged throughout the program.

Comments
“This was an excellent program!”

Content Provider: Seacoast Science Center
Program Title: Helping Hand From The Horseshoe Crab

Impact on Learning
“They were very interested and impressed with the knowledge and interactive personalities of the presenters.”

Increase in Educator Knowledge
“I did not know that horseshoe crabs had eyespots in their telsons.”

Recommend? Yes
“Yes, I already have at my Science Department meeting. I also have requested that monies be put in our budget for videoconference lessons for next year.”

Comments
“The idea that the students were receiving information that is current, in the field right now was excellent. To be able to see the crab in real time moving and to be able to ask questions and interact with the presenter in real time was excellent. The ability to have the opportunity for the teachable moment was invaluable.”
- Teacher, Grades 9-10
