| Program Description | Math is not just defined by numbers. It also involves patterns and relationships. Math is also considered the “Mother of all sciences” and is heavily used in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Students will learn hands-on the importance of Math with an assortment of activities dealing with Topology, Probability, and Chirality just to name a few. Students will also get the opportunity to design their own game show involving Math as a post-project. | |
| Program Format |
Virtual Visit #1 1. Introductions and pre-visit activity discussion. 2. Students learn the two main components to a strip of paper. They are challenged to create a moebius band and figure out how it is used in society. 3. Students explore the world of Chirality and its importance in the sciences especially Chemistry and Physics. 4. Students investigate the world of probability. They draw up predictions using different concepts probability and explore the importance of normal curves. 5. Students explore a math scenario which actually occurred in Germany. They have worksheets as well an on camera document trying to figure out how to solve the Koenigsberg bridge. 6.Students will finally explore the mathematical concept of sphere-packing and its relevance to society with a hands-on activity. 7. Conclusions and farewells. Virtual Visit #2 1. Greetings and recap of Virtual Visit #1. 2. Students will share outcomes of post-visit activities. |
