| Program Description | Whether it being in a magic show or a movie we have all seen some form of illusions before but, what exactly is an illusion? Students will get the chance to see several optical illusions while make their own illusions. They will also investigate how the brain and eye interact to create an illusion. | |
| Program Format |
1. Introduce the museum and topic of illusions, ask students to share what they discussed during the pre visit activity. Comment on KWL chart. 2. Students will see one of our artistic art piece exhibit that is considered an illusion. We will discuss what is going on inside our mind to form the illusions 3. Activity 1- With the use of pipe cleaners and scissors students will work in groups to create their own optical illusions. 4. Students will then view our exhibit "Reverse Masks" and another very interesting illusion exhibit. 5. Activity 2- By building your own thaumatrope students will be able to visually understand the concept of persistence of vision and how it relates to viewing illusions. 6. Students will explore our final illusion exhibit of "depth spinner" and see how our brain and eye work together to make the illusion happen. 7. Conclusion and questions. Fill out "Learned" section of KWL chart. |
