| Program Description | Obesity rates in the US and the UK are rising rapidly. Students learn how to decrease their caloric intake by identifying high fat, sweetened foods. Youth will also have the opportunity to plan a basic exercise program. Plastinated human organs are used to illustrate results of poor daily food choices and lack of exercise. | |

1. BMI is discussed as one measure of fitness 2. National changes in BMI are presented to illustrate need for balance between diet & exercise 3. Various reasons for the increasing BMI and health implications are discussed 4. FITT principle is introduced and students are encouraged to assess their current level of exercise 5. Plastinated human organs are used to show actual effects of poor food / exercise choices 5. Nutrition guidelines are listed 6. Sugar and Fat contents of various common fast foods and drinks are shown in a graphic manner |

Students will be able to: 1. Describe balance & how the US population is out of balance. 2. Name some negative aspects of being obese. 3. Develop simple exercise program by using F.I.T.T. 4. List three ways to decrease the amount of energy coming into the human body. 5. List three adjectives that mean a food contains less fat. 6. List two ways to know your balancing act is working. 7. Describe negative aspects of being overweight. |

| Program Fee Notes | For the UK, fee is 98 British Pounds. Please include a purchase order number when you submit a reservation. Bridging fees will be paid by the customer. An invoice will be sent after successful delivery of each program. A 1 1/2 % late charge will be added thirty days after the invoice date. Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours prior to your confirmed videoconference date to avoid billing. Payment is due in full upon receipt of the invoice. Checks should be made to McMillen Center for Health Education. Non payment will result in the denial of further registration from your organization. | |
