| Program Description |
An engaging and interactive introduction to essay writing led by child author and internationally renowned speaker Adora Svitak. Comedic and dynamically visual, this program helps students make the transition to persuasive essay writing, developing the skills they need to meet and exceed state and national writing standards. Adora introduces students to the basics of writing a persuasive essay, using playful examples and live writing demonstrations to explain key points. Adora introduces students to two basic ways of creating an argument (separate premises and chain of reasoning) and shares tips on how to create an essay that is effective and fun-to-read. Adora’s young age and dynamic success awakens students to the idea that writing can take them places. |

1. Using PowerPoint visuals, Adora playfully explores the definition of an essay, introducing students to basic terms. 2. Adora and students discuss potential essay topics. 3. Using suggestions from the class, Adora demonstrates two outline frames for an essay topic. 4. Adora walks students through creating an outline. 5. Class discussion on various uses (Adora includes playful examples) for the essay. 6. Question and answer with Adora. |
