| Program Description | Visit the White River Gardens (the Zoo's own personal gardens) as we surround ourselves with thousands of free-flying butterflies. We'll cover the life cycle, colorations, and survival strategies of these beautiful winged insects. | |
| Program Format |
We begin with a discussion on insects in general, and compare other insects to butterflies. We discuss the life cycle of a butterfly, viewing the hatching chambers at the White River Gardens and seeing adult butterflies. We talk about butterfly feeding and vision. We cover butterfly survival strategies, including camouflage and mimicry. A question and answer session concludes the program. |

Participants will list the basic characteristics of an insect. Participants will examine the life cycle of a butterfly from egg to adulthood. Participants will observe butterflies in a natural setting. Participants will list survival strategies of butterflies throughout their life cycle. |
