| Program Description | Twitter is a micro-blogging platform which provides a powerful way for educators to connect with and build a personal learning community. Limited to just 140 characters, tweets can include links, @replies to individual users, and also direct messages (DMs.) In this session we'll explore Twitter and how to get started using it to build a personal learning network. We'll also examine a variety of Twitter tools which can be used to Tweet on the go, manage your Twitter account, and document feedback from conference events and other activities. | |
| Program Format | This videoconference session is a guided exploration and demonstration of Twitter and a variety of both websites and software tools which can extend and improve the use of Twitter as a communications platform. If participating teachers have laptops, the wiki curriculum can be used as a portal for the content and techniques addressed in the workshop. | |
| Objectives |
The participant will: - explore and understand different uses for Twitter to support professional development, organizational communications, and just-in-time support - learn about websites and software programs which can extend the functionality and usability of Twitter - learn how to find other people and follow them on Twitter - understand how to protect personal privacy on Twitter with access controls - brainstorm ideas for using Twitter with students in the classroom, on field trips, on sports teams or clubs, and in other contexts |
