What can art tell us about the exchange of ideas along the Silk Road?  Students will explore how the Silk Road facilitated cultural exchanges of religious and artistic techniques across Asia. They will examine artworks like funerary objects, intricate central Asian metalwork, and Buddhist cave temple reliefs as evidence of these interactions.

Program Details

Format

Program is presented on Zoom by professional museum educators. Through inquiry-based questions and discussion, presenters engage with participants as they explore artworks together. Students may participate in simple drawing and writing exercises throughout the program. Programs are highly interactive and participants are expected to be on camera and interact with the presenter.

Objectives

Students will:

1. Observe and analyze artifacts for evidence of cultural exchange.
2. Explore how both objects and ideas traveled along the Silk Road.
3. Relate artistic ideas and works with societal, cultural, and historical content to deepen
understanding
4. Connect the past with the present to consider how ideas and objects are shared today.
