Program Details

Format

  1. Introduction and Overview: The program begins with a brief introduction to the topic of Marine Conservation, Restoration, & Monitoring, inviting learners to share any prior knowledge or questions they have about the topic.
  2. Segment 1 - Conservation Efforts: Learners explore current conservation initiatives, including Mote Marine Laboratory’s research and programs aimed at preserving iconic species like sharks, sea turtles, manatees, and corals.
  3. Segment 2 - Case Studies: We delve into specific case studies of Mote’s work, exploring success stories and ongoing challenges in marine conservation.
  4. Segment 3 - Personal Impact: The program concludes with a discussion on how learners can make a difference, including actions they can take to support marine conservation efforts.
  5. Questions and Answers: Time is provided for learners to ask questions and engage in a discussion about marine conservation and the efforts to protect marine species.

  1. The learner will explain the significance of shark conservation and the impact of global initiatives like Global FinPrint on protecting reef sharks.
  2. The learner will describe the methods used to monitor sea turtle nesting and manatee populations and their role in conservation efforts.
  3. The learner will compare the challenges and strategies involved in coral restoration with those of protecting other marine species.
  4. The learner will identify key threats to marine ecosystems and propose solutions to support conservation efforts.
