Join the National Museum of Asian Art for Stories in Art Across Asia.  Students will explore artworks from the collection and discover the stories and folktales that bring the artwork to life.  Choose from themes like Kindness and Friendship, Courage and Resilience, and Eat and Celebrate.  (Recommended for grades Pre-K-3.  Please indicate your theme in the additional notes section of the registration form.)

The National Museum of Asian Art is located on the National Mall in Washington, DC.  With more than 46,000 objects dating from the Neolithic period to today, our collections' strengths range from the arts of China, Japan, Korea, South and Southeast Asia, the ancient Near East and the Islamic World to nineteenth century American art.  The National Museum of Asian Art is committed to providing quality Pre-K-12 programs that deepen students understanding of Asian Arts and cultures, develop students' capacity for slow looking, and broaden students' perspective taking capacities.

Program Details

Format

Program is presented on Zoom by professional museum educators. Students will first explore a work of art together using Project Zero thinking routines. Then students will listen to a story that connects to the work of art and together discuss connections and themes. Programs are highly interactive and participants are expected to be on camera and interact with the presenter.

Objectives

Students will:
1. Explore works of art from Asian countries.
2. Look closely to describe and analyze works of art.
3. Hear a fable or folktale connected to the work of art.
4. Engage in discussions about celebrations around the world and make connections to their own
lives.
5. Develop an appreciation for world cultures.
