Program Details

Format

1. The program begins by exploring the night sky during the winter, highlighting bright stars, constellations, and visible planets.
2. Students will observe that during winter the north pole never sees sunlight and use that to understand the reason for seasons on Earth.
3. Leaving Earth behind, we will explore ice and water throughout our Solar System including on Mars, Jupiter's Moons, and the dwarf planet Pluto.
4. We will explore what makes Pluto a special, wintry world and why it is no longer considered a planet.
5. Finally we will explore the Universe searching for the coldest place we have ever discovered.
6. Time is set aside for Q&A.

Objectives

-Discover stars, planets, and constellations visible in your night sky during Winter.
-Investigate the reasons Earth has seasons
-Explore icy, wintry locations throughout the Solar System and learn that water ice and other forms of ice are more common than we once thought.
