In this Distance Learning Program, students will learn the definition and geography of the Boreal Forest in Alaska. They will then play an engaging activity to discover what Forest Succession is, and what factors drive those changes. The program concludes with students creating their own dynamic and diverse forest ecosystem.

Program Details

Format

1. The program begins with students comparing images of different boreal forests worldwide.
2. Next, students will play an exciting game of forest succession and try to grow from the herb stage to the climax stage of succession.
3. The program concludes with students drawing or writing about a diverse forest with living and non-living components.
4. Students can share their forests and ask questions if time remains.

Objectives

Learners will be able to correctly point out where the boreal forest is on a map.

Learners will make connections of living and non-living things in a diverse forest ecosystem.

Learners will understand and explain what drives forest succession.
