The Turkic Empire: Historic and Mythic Origins of the Turks

by  Inner Asian & Uralic National Resource Center

Program image

This presentation is about the Turkic Empire also known in Turkish as the Göktürk Empire. While it wasn’t the first Turkic-speaking empire, it was the first empire to bear the name of the Turks in it; thus, it is often called the First Turkic Empire. We will go over the empire’s pre-dynastic history, its mythical origin, and its two founders, the brothers Bumin and Istämi.
