IKEducation programs are "learning laboratories" where students analyze primary sources related to the life and times of Dwight D. Eisenhower. These cross-curricular programs are rooted in national standards and supported by educators who utilize best practices and high-quality educational materials. IKEducation is a collaborative initiative between the Eisenhower Foundation and the Eisenhower Presidential Library, Museum, and Boyhood Home in Abilene, Kansas.

Program Details

Format

1. This program introduces the importance of using fingerprints in forensic evidence.
2. Students will follows a criminal investigation that began in 1957 and was solved 47 years later because of the evolution on fingerprint technology.
3. The different fingerprint patterns will be discussed.
4. Students will analyze an Executive Order written by President Eisenhower.
5. Students will have the opportunity to analyze President Eisenhower's fingerprints.
6. Students will be able to analyze their own fingerprints with the follow-up activity.

Objectives

1. Students will analyze a primary source document.
2. Students will apply knowledge learned about fingerprints to analyze President Eisenhower's fingerprints and their own fingerprints.
3. Students will discuss the advantages of improved fingerprint technology in forensic investigations.
