As a world-class, AZA-accredited nonprofit marine research institution, we bring the excitement of authentic research and hands-on learning to you. From chatting with a shark trainer in the stunning new Mote Science Education Aquarium, to exploring the Florida Keys and observing coral reefs like a real scientist, our virtual lessons are designed to engage and inspire your students. Aligned with state and national education standards, our lessons range from 30 to 60 minutes and provide a unique and thrilling way to dive into STEM topics. Join us on a virtual learning journey and unlock the mysteries of the ocean!

Program Details

Format

1. WAVE programs begin with a live introduction from a Mote expert who introduces the featured animals and their environment.
2. We explore the animals using live video and interactive media to highlight their unique biological traits and natural habitats.
3. Participants receive an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the Aquarium to observe the real-time behaviors and care of animals such as jellyfish, sharks, and sea turtles.
4. Educators lead interactive discussions about conservation and research that are tailored to the specific age and grade level of the audience.
5. Every session concludes with a live Q&A period where participants can ask our experts questions directly.

Objectives

The participants will:

• Identify key biological traits and habitat requirements of the focal species to understand how they survive and thrive in their environments.
• Explore the connection between animal behavior and the specialized care provided by aquarium experts behind the scenes.
• Analyze the impact of human activities on aquatic ecosystems while identifying specific conservation actions to help protect these species.
• Engage in an interactive dialogue with STEM experts to synthesize new information and satisfy curiosity about the natural world.
