Welcome to the world of owls
Learn about owls in the past and the laws that protect owls today
Discover the type of owls that played roles in the Harry Potter book series
Learn about the habitats where these owls live and their natural history
Meet and learn about a live Great Horned Owl
Meet and learn about a live Barred Owl
Meet and learn about a live Eastern Screech Owl
Meet and learn about a live Barn Owl
Learn about the physical adaptations that enable owls to be top predators
Learn about the important role that owls play in the food web
Learn how to help owls
Review and Q&A

Objectives

The participant will:
- understand the history of bird protection laws
-list characteristics of raptors or birds of prey
-understand a basic food chain and its energy transfer/flow
-explore the concept of food webs
-define and have a working knowledge of the vocabulary words provided
-develop an appreciation for native owls and their need for protected habitat
-know what owl species are highlighted in the book series
-Determine how the physical characteristics of a species and an environment are related to where the animal lives and what it eats
