Ocean Wise is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower communities and individuals to take action to protect and restore the world's oceans.

Live workshops guided by Ocean Wise experts, focus on inquiry-based learning with an environmental and climate change focus. Not your average digital workshops, students will play mini-games, lead their own discussions, and enjoy some surprises along the way. Using scientific findings and data collected by Ocean Wise’s world-renowned research team, they will get an inside view of the latest climate and ocean science and come away feeling empowered to make positive change.

Program Details

Format

1. Open with Kelp trivia
2. Explore the significance of kelp and other keystone species in the ocean
3. Discuss threats to kelp forests and its effects on the food chain & global health
4. Explore how different careers inside and outside of stem can relate to ocean conservation
5. Students will share their job interests and we discuss how it can relate to sustainability

Objectives

- Emphasize the impacts and significance of keystone species such as kelp & sea otters in the ocean
- Highlight the importance of STEM and conservation careers
- Explore how food chains operate and everything is connected
- Engage in conversations about how everyday jobs and hobbies can connect to sustainability
