Format
After connecting with the Mission Control at the Challenger Learning Center, the flight director will give an overview of the current crisis and then begin driving data sets into the team computers through an internet interface that we have created. The students analyze the data, prepare calculations and graphs and then interpret the results so that they can provide recommendations on what the astronauts should do to weather this solar flare. The students work together using a team approach to handle the crisis situation and bring the mission to a successful end. A complete post brief session is then held to discuss the events and to provide the students an opportunity to share what they have learned and to give advice to astronauts upon their return to Earth.
Objectives
Each student in your command center will have a critical task that is essential to the success of the mission. They objective for each student is to use their math skills and science knowledge to solve problems in a real-world situation in this simulated event. In a fast-paced way, the students will be challenged to provide information to Mission Control so they can save the astronauts from harm.
