Format
1. Start with an experiment to illustrate the layers of calcium on the bone structure.
2. Students are able to see the layers of a bone using a real round bone.
3. After hearing information about differently shaped bones, then students participate in a “dig” to find various shaped bones.
4. Bones and muscles move us at our joints so they are discussed and kids have a chance to identify the location of these bones and joints in their own bodies.
5. An exercise segment gets students’ bones moving.
6. Four keys to staying healthy are presented so that students’ are empowered to make healthy choices daily.
Objectives
Upon completion of this program, the student will be able to:
1. Recognize and identify at least three major bones in the body.
2. Identify one of the three layers of the bone composition.
3. Recognize and identify the four different types of bones.
4. Name and recognize two types of joints.
5. Recognize the three types of muscles: smooth, cardiac, and skeletal muscles.
6. Participate in group exercises that can keep our skeletal and muscular system strong.
7. List two ways to keep our muscular and skeletal system healthy.
8. List safety tips to help protect muscles and bones.
