Program Details

Format

1. This program begins with a short video familiarizing the audience with the location and mission of the Alaska Zoo.
2. Introduction to staff member and encounter animal(s).
3. Discussion- Polar bears as an Arctic marine mammal.
4. Discoveries with biofacts- Arctic adaptations!
5. Discoveries with photos/video- An Arctic habitat and diet.
6. Discovering climate change and its impacts on polar bears (photos/video).
7. Brainstorming actions for conservation.

Objectives

Through this program participants should be able to:
*List polar bear characteristics.
*Identify where they live and what they eat.
*Discuss various Arctic adaptations of polar bears.
*Discuss what climate change is and how people affect it.
*Address how climate change is directly affecting polar bears.
*Identify positive solutions for polar bear conservation.
