Join Santa and the Alaska Zoo elf biologists for a meet-and-greet with Santa and the zoo's resident reindeer! This program will give you a special opportunity to chat with Santa and zoo experts about Santa's reindeer and their caribou cousins in Alaska. This EdZoocational experience will be sure to make you a reindeer expert for the holidays, so be sure to keep your eyes to the sky this Christmas!

Program Details

Format

1. This program will begin with a short introduction familiarizing the audience with the location and mission of the Alaska Zoo.
2. Introduction to Alaska Zoo elf/elves, virtual classroom etiquette, and special guest, Santa!
3. Santa will introduce you to the reindeer and give them enrichment.
4. Santa will discuss how the zoo elves take care of some of his reindeer friends.
5. Alaska Zoo expert elves will talk about the similarities and difference between reindeer and caribou in Alaska utilizing biofacts and photos.
6. Santa, zoo elf and participants activity!
7. Time allowed for questions and answers with Santa and zoo elf/elves.

Objectives

Through this program participants should be able to:
*Give the difference between a caribou and a reindeer.
*Identify characteristics of this deer family member.
*Develop an understanding of wild caribou behavior.
