In honor of Polar Bear Day, February 27th,  the Alaska Zoo is inviting you to celebrate Polar Bears with us all week long! Meet the Alaska Zoo’s resident polar bears and discover these amazing Arctic icons through an up-close encounter at the polar bear habitat. This unique experience unveils how these perfectly polar bears thrive in an Arctic environment and what adaptations make them the ultimate survivor! Programs will be scheduled November 5th-9th

Program Details

Format

1. This program begins with a short video familiarizing the audience with the location and mission of the Alaska Zoo.
2. Introduction to staff member and encounter animal(s).
3. Enrichment and Discussion- What is a polar bear?
4. Discoveries with biofacts- Arctic survival experts!
5. Discoveries with photos/videos.
6. Awesome Adaptations via photos/videos.
7. Time allowed for questions and answers.

Objectives

Through this program participants should be able to:
*List some polar bear characteristics.
*Describe what makes a polar bear a marine mammal.
*Identify where they live and what they eat.
*Discuss various Arctic adaptations of polar bears.
