Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Witness the classic tale of A Christmas Carol come beautifully to life as award-winning actor J.T. Turner portrays Charles Dickens and every single character from the story in this one-man show. Charles Dickens was famous for bringing his A Christmas Carol to life for audiences every year, and this version brings all the drama, comedy and redemption as Dickens had originally written it.

For a less seasonal program, Turner can visit your school or venue as Charles Dickens sharing insight on his own life and a range of his literary works, in "A Visit with Charles Dickens".

Seeking a women's history program? We also offer the original  "Tea with Mrs. Dickens" performed by professional actor and teaching artist Marci Diamond in period costume. Catherine Hogarth Dickens will welcome you to the Dickens' home in 1852, to share stories about her life as a young Scottish immigrant to England, her favorite Victorian culinary and holiday traditions, her own published book, and what it is like to be married to and even travel to America with the most famous author in the world.

Program Details

Format

In "A Christmas Carol," Charles Dickens (J.T. Turner) performs his entire work "A Christmas Carol", playing all the roles himself! For "A Visit with Mr. Dickens," he discusses his life, times, and works with the participants, including them in the conversation. For "Tea with Mrs. Dickens," Catherine Dickens (Marci DIamond) directly addresses the participants as if they are having tea with her at the Dickens family home in Dec. 1852.

Objectives

1. Participants will develop an appreciation for the most popular novelist and Christmas story in history (outside of the New Testament).
2. In "A Christmas Carol," participants will explore the themes of poverty, charity, class inequality, generosity, and redemption as exemplified by this highly engaging performance of a classic Victorian tale. These themes are also explored in "A Visit with Mr. Dickens" and "Tea with Mrs. Dickens"
