Program Details


1. Lloyd will sing "Jingle Bells" or another familiar song to get the holiday party started.
2. Lloyd will play a variety of easy-to-sing holiday songs and tell a bit about the history of each.
3. Before the final song (most likely "Silent Night," a song folks love as the finale of these sing-a-longs) Lloyd will take questions about the backstories of the songs

- explore the history of some familiar holiday classics
- have fun using their voices!

- explore how the narrative of songs unfold
- compare the different types of "holiday songs" -- religious, secular, storytelling, folk songs
- explore how literature is adapted by songwriters
- explore how religious texts are made easy-to-understand via the singable poetry of a song
- explore the history behind the Christmas holiday and its customs
- compare the religious version of Christmas with the secular version -- and discuss how they have merged but also come into conflict
