Format
1. This program begins with an overview of tobacco and nicotine products.
2. We discuss the use of electronic cigarettes as smoking cessation devices.
3. Next, we do an activity highlighting the difference between an aerosol and water vapor.
4. The effects of vape aerosol and cigarette smoke on the lungs will be discussed.
5. The dangers of second and thirdhand aerosol/smoke will be illustrated.
6. The effects of nicotine on the body will be explained.
7. Students identify strategies to reduce stress that don't include the use of tobacco products.
8. Time is allowed for questions and answers.
Objectives
Upon completion of this program, the student will be able to:
1. List the effects of tobacco/nicotine products on a person’s lungs and mouth.
2. State how heart disease is related to using tobacco/nicotine products.
3. State that nicotine products can be damaging even if synthetic.
4. State that e-cigarette use by youth and young adults increases their risk of using conventional cigarettes.
5. State how difficult nicotine addiction is to overcome.
6. Identify how second and thirdhand smoke and vaping aerosols may affect a non-smoker.
7. Identify the influences (including the role of the tobacco industry) that may persuade teenagers to begin using tobacco/nicotine products.
8. Identify ways in which a person could refuse or replace tobacco/nicotine products.
