Combine literature, sign language and a whole lot of science!
Enjoy a funny story about a turkey who loses his feathers. But does he
find his feathers? Your students use sign language as we retell the
story and create the ending. Using their turkey, students will explore
the math and science concepts of line of symmetry, push, pull, friction, gravity
and incline. This program is totally Hands-On interactive learning!

We will mail you all the fun supplies!

Program Details

Format

1. Author Valerie Marsh begins this program with a quick review of the difference between fiction and non-fiction! Students engage in sign language with our story about a turkey who looses his feathers!
2. We brainstorm on how the turkey can find his feathers!
3. Miss Liz the Science Wiz, introduces "Newton's First Law of Motion".
4. Students make predictions regarding what will happen to their turkey as they apply force. Students vary the amount of force that they use.
5. Students experiment with push and pull and friction as they glide the turkey across their table.
6. Students observe gravity as they drop their turkey while sitting down and then standing up!
7. Students use their string to create an incline for their turkey. They will vary the angle of the incline and notice how this changes the movement of the turkey.
8 Students increase the speed of their turkey by increasing the weight of the turkey using a paper clip!
9. .We will review our story, the sign language and all of the science terms: Question, Predict, Experiment, Observe, Conclude

Objectives

Students will:
1. retell our funny story about a turkey and his feathers.
2. show a friend our sign language.
3. understand the terms question, predict, observe, experiment, conclude.
4. demonstrate the forces of push versus pull.
5. demonstrate the concept of gravity and friction.
6. show the concept of an Incline.
7. be able to identify the line of symmetry.
8 . work cooperatively with a partner during the experiments.
9. be active participants while conducting an experiment.
10. develop an appreciation for physical science.
