Format
1. This program begins with an overview of tobacco and nicotine products.
2. We then do an activity learning about the chemicals in electronic cigarette aerosol.
3. We discuss the effects on the body systems.
4. Participants discover how the tobacco industry markets to youth.
5. Students identify strategies to reduce stress that don't include the use of tobacco products.
6. Time is allowed for questions and answers.
Objectives
Upon completion of this program, the student will be able to:
1. Identify at least 3 harmful chemicals found in cigarette smoke and/or vaping aerosol.
2. State that harmful chemicals can also be found in second and thirdhand smoke and vaping aerosols.
3. List three effects of tobacco/nicotine products on body systems.
4. State that chemical flavors in e-cigarettes are FDA approved for food/beverage consumption, not for respiration into the lungs.
5. State how difficult nicotine addiction is to overcome.
6. Identify influences (including the role of the tobacco industry) that encourage adolescents to begin using tobacco/nicotine products.
7. Identify ways in which a person could refuse or replace tobacco/nicotine products.
