Qigong, Tai Chi, Meditation, and Mindfulness

"Introduction to Qigong or Tai Chi": Participants are introduced to simple, gentle exercises of Qigong or TaiChi, mindful movement systems from China used around the world for thousands of years to calm mind and body. These simple movements can help reduce stress, prevent falls, and improve focus, balance, circulation, & mobility, and can be done standing, sitting, or even lying down.  

"Just Breathe": Learn simple, engaging breathing practices to calm and focus body and mind. 

"Meditation": This ancient mindful practice still helps many people around the world to feel more focused and centered.

Programs are provided by certified TaiChi, Qigong, and Meditation teacher J.T. Turner, and are adaptable for all ages, abilities, and developmental levels. Please note in request WHICH program you'd like: "Qigong"; "Tai Chi"; "Just Breathe"; or "Meditation".

Unless cancelled due to official emergency (e.g., school/venue closed due to weather emergency), cancellation must be received in writing by The Actors Company at least 2 weeks in advance of scheduled program, to avoid fees for late cancellations. The Actors Company's professional teaching artists offer original, engaging, historical and literary character-based shows, as well as customized workshops in theater topics and mindful & creative movement. 

Our highly interactive programs support educational objectives in ELA, HSS, STE, SEL, performing arts & physical literacy, in schools, as well as life-long learning goals in community settings. Our carefully researched historical & literary shows are presented in period costume, and all our programs are adaptable to specific curricular, developmental, and scheduling needs. 

TAC was founded by J.T. Turner (SAG-AFTRA, AEA), an award-winning professional writer, actor, director, and educator, and is managed by Marci Diamond (MPA, SAG-AFTRA, AEA), also a professional teaching artist/performer. Additional programming is provided by Marisa Diamond (BFA, SAG-AFTRA, AEA).

Program Details

Format

1. Brief interactive introduction to the history and benefits of Qigong , TaiChi , meditation and/or breathwork by the presenter
2. Participants are guided in practicing calming breathing techniques to try during the workshop
3. Participants engage in a series of simple exercises demonstrated by the presenter, who will adapt them specifically to the needs of the participants (e.g., standing or sitting, limited mobility, etc.); additional exercises may be offered depending on audience (developmental, fitness level, goals)
4. TIme is allowed for reflection, questions and answers.

Objectives

1. Participants will gain understanding of the relationship of Qigong or TaiChi to Traditional Chinese Medicine.
2. Participants will be guided through mindful practices they can try which have the potential to improve their well-being.
3. Participants will be empowered with a set of simple, replicable exercises they can continue to practice if they wish.
