Qigong and Tai Chi : Mindfulness in Motion

from Actors Company

Program image

Through a combination of gentle movement, mental concentration and breathing,  Qigong helps to balance energy and improve participants' focus, circulation, mobility, and sense of well-being. This is a 5,000 year old system from China used throughout the world to support mindfulness, wellness, healing and health. Qigong is the foundation for similarly healthful Tai Chi forms, as well as many martial arts. Since the movements are slow and non-impact based, they can be done at any age or fitness level, and can be adapted for people with health and mobility issues. This simple introductory class will teach the basics of breathing and simple movements that can help energize and focus you throughout the day. Can be used for student, elder, and employee wellness or as a warm up for theater and sports. Please join us for this introductory session taught by Qigong and Tai chi practitioner J.T. Turner, who is a member of the national Qigong Association, and certified as an instructor by both the Tai Chi for Health Institute (with specialization in Tai Chi for Arthritis) and Tai Chi Health Ways. You may request either Qigong or Tai Chi for this session; please specify in program request notes.

(Please also see "Stories from Around the World" to request J.T.'s "Journey of Chen: Animal Tai Chi, or "Theater, Circus and Movement Arts" to request J.T.'s "Tai Chi for Actors")
