Student to World is an online course where youth learn about global issues from articles, videos, and stories created by students from around the world. The program explores a theme from a local to global perspective, culminating with an action plan. Currently, the following themes are available: Global Hunger, Art in Action, Ocean Health, and Pandemic, Overcoming Bia, Mental Health, Sports, Women's Rights and Human Rights.

Student to World: Ocean Health explores the impact of our use of plastic on ocean health and deepens global awareness through activities, curated media resources, and stories by youth from around the world.

Program Details


Student to World: Ocean Health explores the impact people have on the health of our oceans over the course of 4 modules. .

Module 1 #EverydayPlastic: Teens explore and share stories about a plastic item in their lives

Module 2 #EverydayLocalEcosystem: Teens explore and share stories about plastic usage in their communities

Module 3 #EverydayGlobalEcosystem: Teens explore and share stories about how a piece of plastic travels around the world

Module 4 #EverydayAction: Teens plan for local actions that can achieve positive global impact


-Have a basic understanding of the history of plastics
-Understand the connections between plastic use and ocean health
-Know how stories help us connect to one another across distance and difference
-Understand the meaning of an ecosystem and how humans interact with them
-Understand feedback loops
-Know how to visually map a local ecosystem based on a story you will tell
-Understand global macro ecosystems
-Connect individual and collective single-use plastics with ocean health
-Calculate your own plastic use and think about ways to reduce it
-Learn that everyday behaviours can affect ocean health
-Take positive action to preserve ocean health
