Zion National Park is a place with massive sandstone
cliffs, narrow slot canyons, unique wildlife and plants, and a rich history.
Students learn about Zion National Park, the National Park Service, and the
unique ecosystems and history of the southwest as they interact in live time
with a uniformed ranger. Our free programs cover a variety of topics that bring
curriculum to life.

Program Details

Format

1.) Ranger will introduce the National Park Service and Zion National Park, as well as the format of the program.
2.) Birder: Ranger will introduce the term.
3.) Easy to Identify birds of Zion: Ranger will discuss the relationship between the physical characteristics several birds and their diets.
4.) Habitat: Ranger will discuss why Zion is an ideal place for many birds to live.
5.) Bird calls: Students will join ranger in recreating several easy to identify bird calls heard in Zion National Park.

Objectives

Students will be able to...

• Identify at least six birds based on what they look and/or sound like.
• Understand the relationship between the physical characteristics and diet of at least three birds.
• Recognize why Zion National Park is an ideal habitat for many birds.
