This engaging program will bring the story of “Juma the Giraffe” to life in your classroom. During this session, students will meet Ambassador Animals that relate to Juma’s world and explore what makes these animals special through the animal groups they belong to and their adaptations. 

The Lee
Richardson Zoo's Distance Learning Studio offers a multitude of environmental
programs to students all over the nation. Our programs include 2-4 live
animals. However, we are currently unable to give programs from actual exhibits
around the zoo.

By Request: $130.00


The fee for all Distance Learning programs is $130 per program. Payment in full must be received no later than twenty-four (24) hours before the program is scheduled to occur.

30 minutes for Pre-K and kindergarten; 45 minutes for others.

CANCELLATION POLICY: In the event that a program must be canceled due to weather, technical issues, or other circumstances beyond the control of the Zoo or program recipient, the program may be rescheduled at a later date agreeable to both parties for no additional charge (dependent on availability).
REFUND POLICIES: Once registration is confirmed, the Lee Richardson Zoo adheres to a no-refund, no-credit policy. If a program is canceled at any time for any reason other than those listed above, no refund or credit will be given. The substitution of another group of participants of the same age is permitted with prior notification.

Program Details

Format

1. This program begins by introducing the story of “Juma the Giraffe”.
2. Meet the giraffes of Lee Richardson Zoo and see how they compare to the giraffes from Juma’s world.
3. Meet two to three Ambassador Animals.
4. Explore the connections between the animal guests and the story as well as what makes these animals special.
5. Wrap-up.

Objectives

•Students will be able to identify different animal groups and provide animal examples from the story and real life that match those groups.
•Students will be able to explain how they can help the special wildlife they find around their hometown.
• Students will be able to provide examples of adaptations in nature and for themselves.
