Program Details

Format

Depending on participant needs, the format may change. However, the format usually falls under this structure:
1. The program begins with introductions to the Royal BC Museum, presenters, and an overview of the program.
2. Meet some of the whales of J-Pod (a group of southern resident orcas),
3. Learn about family structures and behaviour
4. Discover how orcas around the world adapt to their oceans and use different techniques such as echolocation to catch their prey
5. Investigate some of the risks that impact orcas, like overfishing and pollution.
6. Find out more about what you can do to protect orcas and our oceans
7. Questions are welcome throughout the program.

Objectives

Learners/Participants will:
• Learn about the behaviours and life cycles of orcas
• Consider social, ethical and environmental implications on orcas and the ocean
• Develop an understanding of the interaction between humans and the environment and the impact of humans on the environment
