Humans have used simple machines for thousands of years. From chopping wood to hunting and cooking, we use simple machines to reduce our workload. During this virtual interactive learning program, help search for these machines and explore how these tools helped shape British Columbia. How many can you spot?

Program Details

Format

Depending on participant needs, the format may change. However, the format usually falls under this structure:
1. The program begins with introductions to the Royal BC Museum, presenters, and an overview of the program.
2. Overview of the six simple machines
3. Investigate how simple machines affect the landscape/communities. We will stop at displays in the BC History Gallery that may include:
• Discovery’s Ship
• Gold Rush
• Underground Mining
• Forestry
• Farming
• Train
• Cities and Toys

Objectives

Learners/Participants will:
• Identify the 6 types of simple machines
• Discover how simple machines have been used in shaping BC
