Program Details

Format

1. This program begins with a tour of the current evening sky.
2. Participants then discuss why astronomy and storytelling were important to early civilizations..
3. We share sky stories from various Native American groups (Huron, Cherokee, Navajo, Algonquian and Lillooet)
4. Time is allowed for questions and answers.

Objectives

- Identify any planets visible to the unaided eye in the current evening sky, and name at least three constellations visible after sunset.
- Discover that we see different constellations at different times of the year.
- Give a reason why people tell stories and legends and relate two Native American star legends.
