What really goes on in a museum? Talk with museum professionals to help celebrate International Museum Day (IMD) on May 18! IMD is organized by ICOM ® (International Council of Museums) and the theme for 2022 is The Power of Museums. We want to join the international effort to raise awareness on how museums work to not only preserve but also promote cultural & natural heritage and how museums can serve as educational hubs for the community.

2. What is ICOM® and International Museum Day
3. How museums use collections (artifacts) and resources to make connections and provide educational value to the community
4. Examples of museum work around the globe (4-5 examples to be discussed)
5. Conclusion - Q&A

Objectives

Participants will:
-be introduced to what ICOM does for the international museum community and learn about the 2022 theme for International Museum Day (May 18)
-explore how museums operate in terms of what and why they collect artifacts and the programming associated with those collections
-understand how museums serve the local (and sometimes, global) community through preservation, research, programming, etc...
