Join us for an insider's look into a Geochemistry lab, exploring the tools used to answer important climate questions, and engaging with Juliana Olsen-Valdez, a young scientist, who will share how she collects samples in the field and processes them in the lab to change what we know about Geology!

Program Details

Format

Join our scientist educator in a virtual tour of the Benson Earth Sciences state-of-the-art geochemistry laboratory on the CU Boulder campus. We will explore areas of the lab not open to the general public, engage in a research experiment and dialog directly with the scientist in real time. Objectives

Participants will:
- Do an experiment with our scientist in real time
- Virtually tour and be introduced to tools used in the geochemistry lab
- Understand how geologists extract information from rocks
- Learn what it takes to pursue a science and/or STEM career
- Explore what it means to be a scientists and what that environment looks like daily
- Be introduced to basic concepts behind climate change - such as how rocks can
record past conditions and how they capture carbon dioxide.
- Ask questions important to you about earth sciences
