The National WWII Museum presents, “What Comes Next? The End of WWII.” This Virtual Field Trip focuses on what comes next, the 5 years following WWII in Europe and Japan. Students will learn about how the United States and the other Allied Powers began the process of rebuilding and recovery after the war. This Virtual Field Trip will cover topics including the creation of the United Nations, the Marshall Plan, the Nuremberg Trials, and the Occupation of Japan. Utilizing primary sources like maps, photographs, and oral histories from the Museum’s collection, students will learn about the state of the world after World War II.

Format

1. Introduction to the Museum
2. Review how the War Ends in Europe
3. Analyze the next 5 years in Europe and discuss how the Continent is rebuilt.
4. Review how the War ends in Japan
5. Analyze the next 5 years in Japan and how they rebuild

Objectives

Students will gain a general understanding of how the war ends in Europe and Japan. Students will then be able to explain how the world began rebuilding after the war. Students will gain the knowledge of the transitioning years into the Cold War Era. Students will be able to connect what is learned in the program to how it shaped the world during the Cold War Era
