Sounds Like Poetry!

by  Planet Word

Program image

Delight in sprightly “i”s and “e”s or wallow in long, mournful “o”s as we explore how poets play with the sounds
of words to evoke specific feelings and tones in their work. Students will also practice those techniques in a
short writing activity.
Planet Word programs are adaptable and highly- participatory and may change depending on student
engagement:

10 minute welcome, introduction to Planet Word, introduction to content.
20 minute educator-led discussion of techniques of sound in poetry.
20 minute opportunity for students to write their own short poem.
10 minute Q&A and conclusion.
