National Wildlife Property Repository

a CILC Content Provider

Content provider's logo

The National Wildlife Property Repository is a unique facility that receives, stores, and distributes wildlife property that has been abandoned or forfeited to the government as a result of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service inspections and wildlife crime investigations. The objective of storing these items is to loan wildlife products to scientific and educational institutions for use in conservation education. Approximately 1.3 million individual pieces of wildlife property are housed at the Repository which represents a small fraction of the illegal trade.

One key function of the Repository is education to help the public, policy makers, media, educators, and students understand the plight of imperiled species and the effects that illegal wildlife trade can have on their continued existence.
