Research
conducted at the Ashfall Fossil Beds in 1978 and 1979 revealed an assemblage of
fossil skeletons unlike any other on earth.  The intact fossil skeletons
covered a large area and in 1991 the site was developed into Ashfall Fossil
Beds State Historical Park. The public can
watch the ongoing excavation and view the dozens of skeletons that lay
side-by-side in-situ, where they were found.  After 28 seasons of
operation, there are now over fifty skeletons exposed in the Park’s Hubbard Rhino
Barn.  Excavation will continue for many years in the future.
