The USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum is housed within
historic aircraft carrier USS Hornet (CVS-12), a National and State Historic
Landmark. With a mission of preservation and education, the Museum presents USS
Hornet as faithfully as possible to how she appeared during service. We use
spaces from our Engine Room to our Captain’s Bridge and everywhere in between
to show living history and real applications of STEM theories, providing unique
programming for students and educators of all learning levels.
The Hornet
is a Smithsonian Affiliate, an honor which required our site and programs being
favorably reviewed and evaluated by representatives of the Smithsonian
Institution. Part of our successful admission to the Smithsonian Affiliate
family was that our educational curriculum is all based current California
Common Core educational standards. Additionally, the Next Generation Science
Standards (NGSS) has guided our STEM-to-Stern program, the first official STEM
program created by the Education Department, since its launch in 2012.
