I am hoping to connect my students with those of a disparate culture and life experience and anchor that experience in literature somehow. For example, it would be interesting for my class and yours to read the same text (long or short) and then meet up for a literary discussion to examine how cultural frameworks inform interpretation--and, crucially, how upbringing and life experience differences do NOT separate one so terribly from their fellow man. We could also trade texts, so to speak. We could offer a Kentucky text (song? novel? poetry collection), you could offer a text written by an author in your country. We could read each other's texts and then tune into a discussion so that we may ask questions of one another.
