Distance Learning for adult audiences at The Cleveland Museum of Art allows lifelong learners to connect with the CMA and enrich their studies of history and visual arts through our collection of art and artifacts from around the world. Through live, interactive videoconferencing, students participate in conversations with museum educators that are two-way and fully interactive.

Virtual learning for Pre-K–Grade-12 students offers connections
with the CMA collection through live, interactive video sessions with a
CMA educator. Explore artworks through discussion, writing, drawing,
and movement. Lessons are designed for grades Pre-K–Grade-12 and are designed to support standards.

Program Details

Format

1. Open with depictions of witches from 17th century artist Salvator Rosa.
2. Discuss related superstitions and Salem Witch Trials.
3. View depictions by other artists of goblins, ghosts, and skulls.
4. Discuss specific historical or personal reasoning for these works.
5. Discuss common attitudes and individual responses to images.

Objectives

Students will understand that works of art can reflect an artist’s imagination and beliefs.
Students will understand that works of art can reflect the cultural perspectives during historical periods.
