Its mission is to promote the conservation and appreciation of birds and wildlife habitat, which it accomplishes through acquiring and maintaining critical habitat as bird sanctuaries, education programs for children and adults, advocacy efforts, and land conservation projects.

Program Details

Format

1. This program begins with an introduction to the world of birds
2. We then discuss what makes raptors different from other birds using live birds and specimens
3. The role of raptors in the environment is discussed
4. An overview of a variety of raptors are given and includes their natural history
5. Participants meet a variety of hawks and owls
6. Why it is important to conserve raptors and the dangers they still face is then discussed
7. Time is allowed for questions and answers

Objectives

The participant will:
-explore the world of raptors
-develop an appreciation for the role of raptors in the natural world
-understand why there are laws to protect raptors
-learn identification skills to better identify birds in their own area
